Research on School Suspensions and Exclusions

We, ClearView Research, are working with the Behavioural Insights Team (BIT) on behalf of the Youth Endowment Fund (YEF), with support from the Department for Education, on a research project exploring how schools in England and Wales support children who are suspended or excluded.
Our research focuses on the experiences of primary and secondary school children, and on the support they receive after a suspension or exclusion.
As part of this research, we want to speak to primary and secondary school children who have experienced suspension and/or exclusion, as well as parents or carers of children who have been suspended and/or excluded from school. We are especially interested in hearing from Black, Asian, and ethnic minority children and families, given the racial disparities that exist in suspension and exclusion rates.

By taking part, you will help us understand what current support looks like, how support can be improved, and what changes are needed for policy and practice.
The application deadline is 27th February 2026. Selected participants will be contacted by email and provided with further details.
Due to limited spaces, we will prioritise applicants who meet specific criteria, ensuring a diverse and representative group. Participation will be confirmed by text or email.
